Energy Efficiency (EE) and Green Buildings
The Firm convened a nation-leading public-private revitalization initiative, led by Mayor Kasim Reed’s Office of Sustainability, to reduce energy consumption 20% by 2020 across participating buildings in Atlanta’s downtown district. The Firm and City Office of Sustainability leaders jointly represented this initiative at the Clinton Global Initiative as one of the inaugural projects of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge. This initiative will utilize substantive EE upgrades of downtown universities, healthcare facilities, and municipal and commercial buildings as a means of freeing up business capital for more productive uses, stimulating growth for communities, fostering new business opportunities, and creating more sustainable footprints.
The Firm also has experience in the broader green building arena. Our attorneys’ work has ranged from the first and largest LEED EB sports venue to the first house ever to be certified by three of the country’s leading green initiatives (U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program, Greater Atlanta HBA’s EarthCraft House program, and National Wildlife Federation’s Backyard Wildlife Habitat program).
